Three Floyds Rabbid Rabbit — Reviewed By: Morey

Brewery:  Three Floyds Brewing Co.

City – State – Country:  Munster, IN  USA

Style:  Saison

Alcohol:  7.4%

Release/Date:  March Release (no bottle date)

Reviewed By:  Morey

INFORMATION:  22oz bottle with no freshness date.  This Saison is brewed with chamomile and rock candy and has a pretty high ABV for the stlyle.  Let’s do this.

APPEARANCE:  Cloudy orange color with some hazy yellow around the edges of the glass.  A good two fingers of fluffy white foam following a medium pour.  Head was slow to disappear, and left plenty of nice lacing on the glass til the last drop.

AROMA:  Chamomile, Coriander, Wet Lawn,  & Peppercorns.  I also started to get some lemon & orange as the beer warmed up a bit.

TASTE:  I’m getting wheat and light malts up front.  Peppery notes, chamomile, and other spices (perhaps from the rock candy) aren’t far behind.  There’s a very subtle sweetness near the back-end.  I let the beer warm for about 10 minutes or so, and it really started to bring out some citrus flavors (mainly lemon and orange).  The finish featured some coriander and yeasty flavors.  Pretty refreshing.

MOUTHFEEL:  Light to medium body with a fairly light carbonation for the style.

MOREY’S BOTTOM LINE:   An above average Saison.  That being said, I guess that I expected a bit more from FFF.  It’s more of a peppery and spicy Saison, as opposed to the tart and funky ones that I’ve been drinking as of late.  Well crafted, but a little tamer than I was anticipating.  It’s definitely worth a shot…but personally, I won’t go out of my way for this one again.

Note:  I sincerely hope that Three Floyds starts to date their beer soon.  So many breweries are finally starting to do it, and for a brewery that makes SO many good IPAs, it is especially important for FFF to get on board!
